Marcella LaBelle, ODDr. Marcella LaBelle has been providing pre and post-operative care at Gimbel Eye Centre since 2005. Previously, Dr. LaBelle was in private practice in Ontario. “What drew me to Gimbel Eye Centre was their excellent reputation for quality clinical and surgical care, “ she says. “What keeps me here is the daily affirmation of the culture of honest, compassionate care, observing all of our surgeons’ superb surgical skills and results, and hearing the stories of grateful patients.”
Dr. LaBelle has been in the eye care industry since 1995 when she financed her undergraduate degree by working in a private practice in Ontario. It was there she learned all aspects of optometric care – including reception, fitting and dispensing glasses as well as ophthalmic testing. During that time, when laser eye surgery was an emerging industry option for patients with vision concerns, Dr. LaBelle expanded her knowledge with training at a large refractive vision correction surgery practice. Dr. LaBelle attributes her chosen career path after graduating with a Bachelor of Science to these experiences.
Dr. LaBelle studied Optometry in Chicago, Illinois. Her clinical training involved travelling to many U.S. locations- such as working in a Pediatric private practice in Colorado, a veteran affairs hospital in West Virginia, and a military care facility on a First Nations Reservation in South Dakota. In 2002, Dr. LaBelle received her Doctor of Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry. In that same year, Dr. LaBelle also received the Therapeutic Pharmaceutical Agents (TPA) certification, which allows her to prescribe medications.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. LaBelle gives lectures throughout Alberta and British Columbia. Her topics vary as does her audience, ranging from individuals with a general interest in eye care to eye doctors sharing in the care of patients before and after vision correction surgical procedures.
Dr. LaBelle enjoys creating a personal connection with her patients and says, “I like to arm my patients with practical knowledge, so they can take an active and educated role in their care.”
Dr. LaBelle and her husband enjoy travelling, walking, photography, and swimming.
