Working at Gimbel Eye Centre

All Gimbel Eye Centre staff members are valued for their individual contributions. It takes all of us collectively—doctors and staff from patient care areas, as well as staff supporting from behind the scenes—to provide the high level of patient care that we can be proud of.

Insight into Gimbel Eye Centre

Gimbel Eye Centre is a progressive, sophisticated ophthalmic medical centre. As one of the largest and busiest ophthalmic out-of-hospital facilities in the world, we are acclaimed for our innovative surgical techniques and exceptional patient care.

We have centres in Calgary and Edmonton. Our core competencies are cataract and refractive surgery, as well as preventive health and wellness. Our goal is to provide superior ophthalmic patient care through knowledgeable, caring staff, state-of-the-art equipment, and patient education. Furthermore, our research team analyzes surgical outcomes with the goal to improve and advance ophthalmology.

Roots of Gimbel Eye Centre

Dr. Howard V. Gimbel began practicing as a general ophthalmologist in 1964. He is an esteemed surgeon and educator, having earned an impressive reputation through his genuine caring approach, pioneering vision and dedication to patient care. As an advocate of "patient choice," Dr. Gimbel performed Canada’s first out-of-hospital cataract surgery in 1980. The practice has continued to flourish under his personal philosophy of "doing what is best for the patient." Gimbel Eye Centre has set international standards of excellence and attracted patients from over 50 countries around the world. Technical excellence is combined with warm, personal care, making patients’ experiences truly unique.
