Our Doctors
Chirag Shah, MD, DO, MBBS
Medical Ophthalmology
Refractive Surgery
After
entering medical school at an
exceptionally young age of 18, Dr. Shah decided to become an ophthalmologist because the role demands precision with surgical instruments and cutting edge technology as well as provides him with a lifetime of opportunity to serve others.
During medical school at Gujurat University in India and after becoming a doctor and ophthalmic surgeon by the age of 26, Dr. Shah honed his surgical proficiency through performing hundreds of cataract, glaucoma, oculoplastic, strabismus and retinal intraocular procedures before he put his excellent credentials, medical acumen and outstanding patient care to use at Gimbel Eye Centre. "Gimbel Eye Centre provides quality service to patients," notes Dr. Shah. "Quality care at Gimbel Eye Centre begins with the patient's first contact with our Patient Counsellors over the telephone and includes all aspects of patient care throughout the entire patient experience."
Having performed hundreds of IntraLase LASIK, traditional LASIK and PRK refractive vision correction procedures resulting in excellent surgical and visual outcomes, Dr. Shah is an accomplished surgeon. His patients routinely comment on his genuine listening skills and ability to provide medical discussions with a friendly approach in clear and common language. Dr. Shah's colleagues and patients appreciate his willingness to go the extra mile — always putting the patient's best interests above all else.
Subsequent to completing a successful refractive surgery fellowship at Gimbel Eye Center — involving a number of significant research projects and studies of new refractive surgery techniques for complicated surgery cases, Dr. Shah joined Gimbel Eye Centre as a staff physician. Keenly aware of the importance that leading edge technology and research have in today's world of eye care, Dr. Shah is a perfect fit into Gimbel Eye Centre's philosophy, continuing history of innovation and team of accomplished surgeons.
Though he is involved with many ongoing research projects, Dr. Shah has concentrated his studies on new refractive surgery techniques and optic capture in cases of dislocated intraocular lenses (IOLs) — research findings he presented at the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery held in San Francisco, California in March 2006.
Dr. Shah balances the demands of his
professional pursuits with personal satisfaction
by enjoying skiing, skating, hiking and other
adventure sports. Dr. Shah also relaxes by
listening to music, attending theatrical
productions and travelling to different
parts of the world to experience different
cultures, unique architecture and
unusual landscapes.
