Gimbel Eye Centre currently offers an Unfunded Research Fellowship. The goals of our program are to assist the fellow in expanding their knowledge, research, teaching and writing experience as it relates to anterior segment and laser refractive surgery and patient care. Our program is designed to allow a fellow to learn through observation, literature searches, data analysis, and presentation of findings through assisting in the preparation of presentations, proposals, abstracts, publications and editing of surgical footage for publication on the Gimbel Library Channel on You tube, Eye tube and other social media sites.
The research Fellow will be encouraged to attend University of Calgary Academic rounds, will associate formally and informally with Gimbel Eye Centre surgeons, and will participate in a variety of research projects along with exploring some of their own applicable research interests.
Dr. Howard V. Gimbel is the Program Director for the research fellowship program. The fellow benefits from observing and working closely with Dr. Gimbel and from time to time experienced associates.
Scheduled and unscheduled meetings between the fellow and Dr. Gimbel will outline plans for clinical research activities, outcome analysis, and academic preparation of symposium presentations and manuscripts for peer reviewed journals.
The research fellowship provides many opportunities for the fellow to expand his/her knowledge of cataract and refractive surgery and related patient care through the avenue of evidence-based medicine.
Please feel free to contact Glenn Gimbel, President, for more details about the unfunded research fellowship program or the application process.
