In April 2010, Alberta Health Services made a decision that all cataract surgeons should do their surgeries in a small number of facilities.  As a result, Drs. Gimbel, van Westenbrugge and Kassab were required to do their Alberta patient cataract procedures at a location other than Gimbel Eye Centre.  

In April 2011 Dr. Gimbel was allowed to return to Gimbel Eye Centre to do surgery in his own facility.  

In April 2012 Drs. van Westenbrugge and Kassab will also be able to do their cataract surgeries at Gimbel Eye Centre.
