Dr. Fatimah Gilani

Dr. Fatimah Gilani completed her medical degree at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland - one of the world’s leading international medical institutions. She subsequently completed her medical internship at Baystate Medical Center, a hospital affiliated with Tufts University in the United States.

Dr. Gilani then pursued her ophthalmology residency at the University of Arizona, where she developed a strong foundation in both medical and surgical eye care. This was followed by a highly specialized medical retina fellowship at Northwell Long Island Jewish Hospital and the Vitreous Retina Consultants of New York, training under world-renowned retina specialists Dr. K. Bailey Freund, Dr. Lawrence Yannuzzi, Dr. William Schiff, and Dr. Gaetano Barile.

Educated on three continents, Dr. Gilani brings a uniquely international perspective to her clinical practice.

Dr. Gilani is highly trained in the management of cataracts and anterior segment refractive surgery procedures, including LASIK, PRK, and lens-based vision correction. Her comprehensive surgical training equips her to address a wide range of refractive conditions with precision and care.

In addition to refractive surgery, Dr. Gilani brings subspecialty expertise in the management of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular occlusions, infectious and inflammatory retinal diseases and other vitreoretinal disorders.

Her dual training in anterior segment refractive surgery and medical retina allows her to provide thorough, patient-centred assessments for individuals considering vision correction.

Dr. Gilani is an active clinical researcher and has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and magazine publications spanning ophthalmic surgery and retinal disease.

Having grown up in Kenya, she has maintained a lifelong dedication to alleviating blindness in underserved communities. Over the course of her career, Dr. Gilani has participated in charitable medical missions in Kenya, Pakistan, Vietnam, Mexico, and Honduras - bringing quality eye care to patients who would otherwise have little access to specialist treatment.

Her international training across Ireland, the United States, and Canada, combined with her commitment to global health, reflects a career defined by academic rigour and humanitarian purpose.
